Miss Météo. Another iconic Mont Sutton figure that made my tenure at that mountain all the more memorable. Jocelyne Trudeau has been doing snow conditions at Sutton for almost 30 years and Zoe and I fell in love with her almost instantly after taking over the Boutique Expérience. Her no bullshit way of calling it like she sees it is not only refreshing, it’s positively endearing.
When I moved back to Quebec to go help Fred at Owl’s Head back in 2013, one of my jobs was to do ski conditions… During my training I was told that the gold standard in ski conditions was the woman who did the Mont Sutton ski report: Jocelyne Trudeau. Under her direction Sutton has gained an enviable reputation of accuracy and honest reporting. When you see 30cm’s on the snow report, you better believe that that’s at least the amount of snow they got… not a cm less.

We took great care and pride in gearing her up and making sure she had everything she needed. If anyone deserves to be warm, comfortable, safe and stylish it’s Jocelyne. She didn’t just ski at Mont Sutton, she IS Mont Sutton! Still skiing every single day of the season at a young 76 years old, we proudly had a large format black and white picture of her hanging in the shop (featuring her on skis) that dated back to before either of us were born. Every time someone would look at the same skis that she skied-on I’d point up to the wall and say “Jocelyne skis on those” and “ca-ching”, off to the cash register we went.
While I miss how tall she makes me feel, I also miss her regular visits to the shop and her big hugs even more. I hope I get to do a few more runs with her before long, the girl can really turn those Volkl Racetiger Carbon’s we set her up with.
